Camp Re-Generation Details
Description:
“A “sustainability” day camp for Middle School Students that provides outdoor adventure and healthy living habits for people and the planet!”
Activities include day hikes, yoga, healthy cooking, gardening, energy efficient practices, and wilderness skills.
Weeks:
Week 1: (June 27-July 1)
Raising Animals and Making Dairy
Goats! Chicks! Horses! Turkeys! In this series, we will learn the basics of taking care of our furry (and feathery) friends, and make tasty snacks (including Ice cream and cheese) from their milk! Students will identify the basics needs of different animals and discover the joys of raising them! We will milk goats, ride horses, gather eggs from chickens, and hatch and name our own chicks!
Week 2: (July 5- 8)
Energy Efficiency: Renewables, Greenhouses, and Solar Cooking
Feel the power of the Sun! In this series, students will learn to harness the energy of the sun, and explore a range of solar technologies. We will construct and cook in a solar oven, explore and harvest fresh vegetables from several greenhouses, and learn about renewable energy!
Week 3: (July 11-15)
Wilderness Adventure: Wild harvesting, Survival skills, and making soap / medicine
Learn to survive (and thrive!) in the woods! This exciting week will introduce students to wild harvesting food and medicine, and traditional techniques to preserve them. We will hike in the woods, identify food and resource plants, and make tinctures, salves, sopas, teas, rope, and other remedies from them.
Week 4: (July 18-22)
Traditional Textiles: Natural and Fiber Arts
Crochet your own hat! Spin raw wool! Students will produce crafts from hand spun wool, learn to make simple crochet and knitting patterns, make felt, construct dream catchers, and work on group art projects from naturally found materials.
Week 5: (July25-29)
Eco Tour! Exploring Cutting Edge Sustainable Practices with Local Leaders
Solar arrays! High Altitude Fig trees! Friction Fires! This final week of Camp ReGeneration provides a synthesis of the entire summer with many special guests! We will explore several world- renowned ecological facilities (like RMI and CRMPI) and hear from leaders in the field!

Monday:
9:15- pick up at ACES in Aspen, 9:30 pick up at intercept lot
10:00- meet at RBR
10:15- intro to week, games, farm tour
11:30- yoga on the island
12:15: lunch and break
1:00- daily learning, field trip, themed activity
2:30- art project, synthesis, closing
